Exceptional Education Speech and Language

The speech and language program shall provide services to students starting at age 3 with exceptional educational needs in the areas of articulation, receptive and expressive language, voice, and stuttering. Students may enter into speech and language services through transition from the County Birth-to-Three Program or by evaluation by the speech pathologist upon receipt of referral.
GOALS:
1. Coordinate the development of Individualized Education Program (IEP) based upon identified needs as recommended by the IEP Team.
2. Provide small group settings or individual instruction to assist the child toward age appropriate ability in self-expression and comprehension of oral language to ensure academic success.
3. Provide students with strategies to facilitate carry-over and maintenance of proper speech and language in regular classroom education.
4. Utilize supportive services to assist regular education teachers.
5. Provide successful experiences that enhance student’s self-esteem and provide positive attitude toward learning and speaking.
6. Serve as a resource for parents and to provide parents with home activities to enhance and reinforce skills emphasized at school.
7. Select materials specifically designed to meet the student’s unique needs.
8. Work within the classroom setting of the Early Childhood Program for young students.
