Exceptional Education Physical Therapy

The Physical Therapy Program shall provide services to students starting at age 3 with exceptional educational needs in the areas of gross motor development, positioning and facilitation of movement, and health and safety impairment. Students may enter into physical therapy services through transition from the County Birth-to-Three Program or by evaluation by the occupational therapist and another qualifying area of need.
GOALS:
1. Coordinate the development of Individualized Education Program (IEP) based upon identified needs as recommended by the IEP Team.
2. Provide small group settings or individual instruction to assist the child toward age appropriate ability in gross motor skills, ambulation and/or wheelchair mobility, and positioning and transfers to ensure academic success.
3. Provide student with strategies to facilitate optimal performance in regular education classroom.
4. Support services to assist regular education teachers.
5. Provide successful experiences that enhance student’s self-esteem and provide positive attitude toward learning and independence in the school environment.
6. Serve as a resource for parents and to provide parents with home activities to enhance and reinforce skills emphasized at school.
7. Select materials specifically designed to meet the student’s unique needs.
8. Work within the classroom setting of the Early Childhood program for young students.
